Beyond the Screen: How to Maximize Your Trip to Lisbon's Tribeca Film Fest
It’s That Time of Year Again!
Portugal and its filmmaking and arts communities are ready to welcome the Tribeca Film Festival back to the capital city of Lisbon from October 30 through November 1. This marks the second annual appearance of the prestigious festival following the premiere edition which was held here in October 2024. There are a number of venues across the city including the Beato Innovation District as the main spot for festivities (which includes the “Unicorn Factory Lisboa”), and other assorted screening venues in Lisbon. Some of these venues include old, renovated beautiful theaters which, themselves, are art pieces.
What’s on the menu? How about curated international and Portuguese films and series; mixed media like podcasts; live talks; immersive installations; and networking among film professionals and department heads including directors, cinematographers, wardrobe and production design, sound designers, producers, and equipment rental houses just to name a few. It’s a fantastic opportunity to mingle, network and make important connections.
What Does This Film Festival Mean to Portugal?
The Tribeca Film Festival shows that Lisbon and the whole of Portugal have come into their own in terms of being a place for filmmakers and storytellers. From the streets of ancient cities to modern towns, from beaches to deserts, from mountains to plains there is a location here for everyone. There are well-defined processes in place to make filmmaking more efficient. And of course there are financial incentives that are available for productions that are taking place here.
What Does This Film Festival Mean to Filmmakers?
This is your opportunity to meet key contacts from Portugal: producers, the film commission, service providers, talent and rental houses. Do some pre-planning to make sure you’re aligned with the schedules of people you’d like to meet with.
The festival is also a great time to seek out locations and develop an understanding of just what Lisbon has to offer. Just remember, there’s more to Portugal than just Lisbon. If you are interested in pushing past the boundaries of the city, look no further than the team at Atmosphera Productions for help in navigating the country.
It’s also a great time to learn about local labor rates, crew capacity, permitting costs and regulations in Lisbon and other areas of the country. This knowledge can help you decide whether shooting here is the best idea for your production.
Atmosphera Productions is going to be on the ground meeting and greeting our fellow filmmakers who are interested in learning more about creating films in Portugal and Spain. It’s our mission to help get films made here because of our love for the country of Portugal. Chat us up to learn about the incentives available here, the locations, the people to know, the talent, rental houses, logistics and more.
